Our Environment Plans and Commitments
All PTTEP’s activities comply with environmental requirements contained within the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act (1999) and the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environmental) Regulations Act (2006).
The EPBC Act is the Australian Government’s central piece of environmental legislation. It provides a legal framework to protect and manage nationally and internationally important flora, fauna, ecological communities and heritage places—defined in the EPBC Act as matters of national environmental significance.
The OPGGS(E)R Act requires petroleum operators to submit Environment Plans before the commencement of any new activity or any significant modification, change or new stage of an existing activity.
PTTEP AA is planning to undertake an exploration and appraisal drilling program within exploration permit AC/P54 and retention lease AC/RL7 that would involve the drilling, evaluation and abandonment of up to 5 wells over the next 5 years.
In April 2018, PTTEP AA submitted an Environment Plan (EP) to undertake exploration and appraisal drilling activities to the regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA), in accordance with the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environment) Regulations 2009. The EP was accepted by NOPSEMA on 16 August 2018.
The first exploration well, Orchid-1, located in exploration permit AC/P54, is scheduled to be drilled, evaluated and abandoned within the period December 2018 to February 2019. Drilling of Orchid-1 is expected to take approximately 35 to 100 days.
