The Montara oil and gas field was first discovered in March 1988 during the peak of the first Timor Sea exploration boom. PTTEP acquired the Montara assets in 2009.
The Montara project comprises:
- An unmanned four-legged well head platform (WHP)
- Three horizontal production wells
- One gas injection well
- Five subsea wells – Swift-2; Swift North-1; Swallow-1; Skua-11 and Skua-10
- Flowlines, risers and control umbilical connecting the WHP to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, Montara Venture.
The Montara Venture FPSO has 750,000 barrels of operational storage capacity and accommodation for 58 people. Production commenced in June 2013 with an anticipated 12 year life span.
